Buyers - looking for property

Legally speaking ...

There isn't much that lawyers can do to help, when you are just looking for a property.  It is when you are interested in buying that help becomes more important (see that topic here).

But still, some general comments might be of help, and so:

Practically speaking ...

Some people find looking at property fun, others find it stressful and difficult.

The key to a satisfactory experience is first collecting key information:

  • What is the maximum you can spend ? (speak to your lender, if applicable).

  • What are your absolute needs for a property - the things that would prevent you from buying the property if it does or doesn't have them.

  • What are your "wants" for a property ... the things you would like, but can afford (if every other requirement is met) to leave out.

Once you have this information set, you will be able to save time by avoiding the properties that you will not be able to purchase.  Then you can start looking. There are many sources, including:

  • The Internet.

  • Newspapers

  • Real estate agent's windows, and brochures, and

  • Communications directly with agents.
